Q How long does the trip take?

A Half an hour upriver from Pulteney Weir we tie up at Bathampton for a couple of minutes, then it’s another half hour back to Bath where we wait 20 minutes before we start the next one hour round trip.

Q Do you run throughout the year?

A No. Our main cruising season is from Easter to October. Trips may be undertaken outside of these times. However, if the river is in spate, no boats are permitted to cruise. Although this is unlikely to happen June to August it can occur at any time.

Q Do you cruise on Sundays?

A Yes, we cruise seven days a week.

Q Where can we buy tickets?

A There’s no need to buy them in advance. We collect the fares on board. It may be wise to call us to reserve a space for a group.

Q Is there a live commentary?

A Yes, after welcoming you on board we leave you in peace to enjoy the trip upriver from Pulteney Bridge, then on the return to Bath we have an informative and (some people think) entertaining commentary.

Q Can we start the trip at Bathampton?

A Yes, you can start the trip from either Bath or Bathampton. You may find it easier to park in Bathampton.

Q Can I get off the boat and return on a later one?

A Yes, of course, on busy days we may ask you to tell us what time you plan to return so that we can ensure there is enough space for you.

Q Can we simply take a one-way trip?

A Yes, many people walk back to Bath along the towpath of the Kennet & Avon canal, which is just over two miles and takes you under two delightful early iron footbridges and through Sidney Gardens.

Q How long can I stay in Bath or Bathampton before catching the return boat ride?

A The Pulteney Princess arrives every hour and 20 minutes so you can spend that long or two hours 40 minutes or even four hours.

Q Can we bring food and drink on board?

A Yes, we welcome this. Many people bring a celebratory bottle of champagne. Just remember to bring your own glasses.

Q Can I bring a bicycle on board?

A Yes, there is usually no problem with two or three bikes but on a very hot busy day it would be advisable to call us first. There is no charge for the bikes.

Q What about disabled access?

A We have room on board for wheelchair passengers provided they can manage, with our assistance, a few steps to board.

Q Can I bring a pushchair or baby buggy on board the boat?

A Yes. We have plenty of room, especially if they fold up.

Q Is the ride suitable for babies and very young children?

A Definitely. The Pulteney Princess is fully enclosed and a safe environment for tiny children. There is room for them to run about and the river trip can be taken in two separate half hour trips with a break in between.

Q Do we need to wear any special clothing or footwear?

A No. As far as the temperature is concerned, there is more of a breeze along the river but the boat is fully enclosed in bad weather but most of the time the roof is open for a sunny cruise. As for shoes, Stilettos are permitted but probably best avoided.

Q Is there a toilet on board?

A No. But there are toilets within 50 metres of both Pulteney Bridge and the landing stage at Bathampton.

Q Is it a non-smoking vessel?

A Yes.

Q Can you accept passengers with special needs?

A Yes, we have experience of taking a varied range of groups with many different special needs. Please let us know in advance how we can help.

Q Do you take school trips?

A Yes, we have a lot of experience with all types of schools and foreign language students.

Q Do you have a written risk assessment?

A Yes, we carry out a regular risk assessment and a copy is held on board the vessel at all times. One can be provided in advance of your booking if requested.

Q Do you run special interest boat trips?

A Yes. Call us and give us your ideas. The Bristol Avon boat trip is ideal for photography enthusiasts, art groups, ramblers, schools etc.
